Gallery A3 -7th Annual Juried Show

 

Gallery A3 is excited to announce an Open Call for Artists for its 7th Annual Juried Show, to be held August 6-29, 2020, with an opening reception on Thursday, August 6, 2020 from 5-8 pm.

The juror for this year’s exhibition is Loretta Yarlow, Adjunct Professor and Director of the University Museum of Contemporary Art, University of Massachusetts

 

Loretta Yarlow received her BA from Sarah Lawrence College and an EdM from Harvard University. A specialist in contemporary art and museum studies, she was initially drawn to these fields through her studies with William S. Rubin, former director of the Museum of Modern Art's Department of Painting and Sculpture, and internships held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY; the Fogg Art Museum, Harvard University; and at the The Musée National d'Art Moderne, Paris.

She held positions as Director of Exhibitions at the Pratt Institute, Brooklyn and NY; the Director/Curator of the Art Gallery of York University, Toronto, Canada;, and served as guest curator at the Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto, Canada, and at the Vienna Kunsthalle. She was Commissioner of the Canadian Pavilion at the 1997 Venice Biennale where she organized the world premiere of Rodney Graham’s landmark video installation Vexation Island. She premiered the first solo exhibitions in Canada of works by leading artists such as Louise Bourgeois, Richard Tuttle, Marlene Dumas, Luc Tuymans, Diana Thater, Tacita Dean, and Juan Munoz.  The numerous exhibitions she has curated for the UMCA include Du Bois in Our Time, The Annunciation by Eija Liisa Ahtila, Kimsooja: Performance/Video,   and Postface by Walid Raad

Gallery A3 is a cooperative, contemporary fine arts gallery in downtown Amherst, Massachusetts. Current members include painters, sculptors, photographers, printmakers, and mixed media artists. During its 18-year history, the gallery has been home to over 60 artists, mounting monthly exhibits and offering cultural events and community collaborations. The Gallery’s opening receptions take place on the first Thursday of every month, in conjunction with Amherst Arts Night Plus.

Submission Guidelines 

Open to all artists 18 and older in Massachusetts, Connecticut, Vermont, and New York. Artists of all backgrounds and working in all media (excluding video and media works) are encouraged to apply.

Work must not exceed 26 inches in width, including framing. Sculpture must not exceed 18 lbs and 26 inches in any dimension. All artwork must be ready to install. Sculptures requiring pedestals must be delivered with their pedestals, which must be stable and clean. Artwork requiring assembly or special handling must include precise directions and photo(s) of the assembled work.

Notification of accepted artworks by email and web posting: Tuesday, July 7, 2020 after 6 PM

Accepted Artwork MAILED/SHIPPED must be received by: Friday, July 24, 2020 and addressed to: Sue Katz, 71 Morgan Circle, Amherst, MA 01002

Accepted Artwork can be DROPPED-OFF at: Gallery A3, 28 Amity Street, Amherst, MA 01002, on Friday July 31 and Saturday August 1, 2020 from 1-7 PM

Public Opening: Thursday, August 6, 2020 5-8 PM

Exhibition Closes: Saturday, August 29, 2020, 7 PM

Curator’s Forum: Thursday, August 20, 2020, 7:30 PM

Pickup Artwork from GalleryA3:  Saturday, August 29, 2020 from 6:30-8 PM (last day of show) and Sunday, August 30, 2020 from 10-4 PM

Pre-Paid Postage Return of Artwork: Week of August 31, 2020

Artists will be responsible for artwork sent or delivered. To send by mail/shipping use address: Sue Katz, 71 Morgan Circle, Amherst MA 01002, to be delivered by Friday, July 24, 2020. To deliver by hand drop-off  to Gallery A3, 28 Amity Street, Amherst, MA 01002 on Friday July 31 and Saturday August 1, 2020 from 1-7 PM. (tel: 413 256-4250). NOTE: artist is responsible for the cost of a prepaid shipping label and postage to and from the gallery.  Please mail work early, the gallery is not responsible for hanging work that is received late.

All artwork must remain on display for the duration of the exhibit with no exceptions.

Giclees of canvas art,  copies of artworks, or reproductions will not be accepted.

All unsold work that does not include a pre-paid return shipping label must be picked up in person on Saturday, August 29, 6:30 - 8:00 PM or  Sunday, August 30, 10:00 am - 4:00 PM. All works that include a pre-paid return shipping label will be shipped the week of August 31, 2020.

Gallery A3 is not liable for any artworks without return shipping labels that are left at the gallery beyond the designated pick-up period of August 29, 2020 - August 30, 2020.

Absolutely no packing peanuts. Crates, boxes, even small packages containing packing peanuts will be resealed & immediately shipped back to you, no exceptions. Artists are responsible for round-trip shipping & insurance (during shipping) of artworks. All shipments must include a prepaid UPS OR FED EX return label & be shipped in a container suitable to re-use for return shipping. Work sent through the US Postal Service, must include a pre-paid shipping label, USPS stamps will not be accepted. **Remember to pack the return shipping label in the box with the artwork!!

SALES: A  25% commission, payable to Gallery A3, will be charged for all sales, as a result of exhibiting in this show.

AGREEMENT TO PARTICIPATE

Submitting your entry indicates that you agree with the conditions of entry and exhibit as outlined in this prospectus, that you are reserving spots in our jury, that you will send the entry fee, and that you agree to make your work available and will ship/deliver it to the gallery by the date specified should it be selected for exhibit.

DO NOT submit an entry form if you cannot follow through. Do not double-book your work, commit it to other conflicting exhibitions, or sell it without securing its availability for our exhibit, after submitting to this project.
